This piece of wood is an original cedar shake from the roof of the Glinz Brothers' hunting and fishing lodge -- the first structure built in the 1920s on the property that now belongs to
YMCA-YWCA of Victoria. The shakes were hand split from timber felled on the land.
Camp Thunderbird, a residential camp and outdoor education centre, was opened by the Y in 1935. Today, the Glinz lodge houses the camp office and staff.
This cedar shake reminds us that the Y is a steward of the natural environment through its camping programs.
